Creating Martians

Today, Primary 3 used the app 'Martian' to create their own alien characters. They enjoyed selecting different features and changing the colours. They then used 'Bump' to transfer their creations onto one iPod touch and Miss Moonie made it into a video slideshow. You can view this below. We hope you like them. Please leave a comment.

Wikipanion in Primary 6

In reading, we used the app Wikipanion to research about the author Dick King-Smith. We found out lots of useful facts about Dick King Smith, and used this to write a summary all about him. This was a really help app and was really easy to use. Wikipanion gives you lots of facts about all different things and web links to other useful websites. Barry preferred using this to google because it is easier.

Using iPods to Help With Maths in P6

In our maths group we play a game called Explore Maths on the ipods. It helps us in maths. This game tests our skills on our times tables. This game gives a selection of tables questions. We choose the table that we need practise with. It helps us get quicker with our maths.

Another app we use is called Pop Maths. We used this to help us with our division. We think its a fun way of learning.

Creating Video Slideshows Using Sonic Pics

Primary 7 have been learning all about Africa's Big Five. The children had to complete a personal research project about one mammal. They used this information to create a video slideshow, with voice recordings using the app, Sonic Pics. They exported this as a movie file and uploaded them onto their Glow group. It was a very worthwhile and easy way of recording their findings. The class voted for the best two. The winners were Ross Boyd and Emma Knox. Well done! You

In the Press

Our school featured in the Times Educational Supplement on January 14th, 2011. They were reporting on our use of iPod touches and were interested to see how they supported learning and teaching. Four children, Caity Fyfe, Emily Weir, Fraser Wright and Sariah Gilchrist were interviewed to find out their thoughts on this wonderful resource.

Primary 5 - The First Class Use Our iPods

Today, Primary 5 had the opportunity to try out our new iPod touches. They were very excited to have these and are looking forward to using them more in class. The children learned how to take photographs and video, how to take a screen shot and had the chance to explore the apps. Here is what some children had to say.

"I enjoyed using the iPod Touch and I played some games like Hangman and Knots and Crosses. It was great fun!" By Abby.
Lewis said, " I was shocked to see the iPod Touches because I didn't think we would get the chance to use these in school. I am looking forward to using the 'Whiteboard' app.
Robbie said, "I saw some maths and language apps that would help me with my times tables and spelling. I am looking forward to using these."

Wikipanion

Wikipanion is my favourite app from the ipod touch.I think this is a great app because when I was doing research on authors or anything else for our novel study I used Wikipanion. To use it you type in something you want to research and it takes you straight to Wikipedia instead of going into Google and then looking up Wikipedia.I like this app because it is a quick way of finding information and I highly recommend using this app if you ever need to do research.

Google Earth

I use Google Earth to help develop my navigating and geography skills. I like to look around the world and see the hotels and countries I have stayed at. Google Earth allows you to zoom in to landmarks, hotels, sea's and much more. It also gives you information about specific places in the world. Its great fun to use.

Using the WhiteBoard App

Our favourite app is the Whiteboard. We like it because we can communicate with each other for work or fun purposes. It allows two people to create a shared picture together or chat. We have used it to set each other maths sums.
